What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain and other high-quality dental materials. They are designed specifically to fit over your teeth to conceal chips, stains, misalignment, and other common dental flaws. Today, they are one of the most sought-after cosmetic dental treatments due to the long-lasting, beautiful, and lifelike results!
The Process of Getting Veneers
At Michelsen Dental, the process starts with your consultation. At this appointment, we will determine if you’re a candidate by conducting an oral exam and learning all about your smile goals. If veneers are the best smile-enhancing treatment for you, then we will move to the next step: preparing your tooth. After removing a thin layer of enamel from the surface of your teeth, we will take the necessary impressions. When your veneers are ready, we will bond them to your teeth with special cement so they stay securely in place.
The Benefits of Veneers
Veneers come with numerous noteworthy benefits, including:
- No anesthesia required. Placing dental veneers is a painless and simple procedure.
- Aesthetic appeal. Veneers can quickly repair teeth that are chipped, misaligned, or spaced far apart, leaving you with a stunning smile.
- Natural results. Your smile can look and feel natural with porcelain veneers.
- Custom made for you. Your porcelain veneers are taken from a custom mold and made especially for you.
- Durable and strong. We make our veneers from a strong material that won’t put a dent in your lifestyle, so you can eat your favorite foods without worry.
- Increased confidence. With a straighter and whiter smile, you can have the self-confidence you need to tackle everyday life.
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Veneers are an excellent way to transform numerous aspects of your smile at the same time! However, you may be worried about the cost of your treatment. We won’t be able to determine the exact cost of your veneers until you see us for your consultation. In the meantime, here are some things for you to keep in mind including some of our most popular cosmetic treatments that we offer.
Cost VS Cosmetic Dentistry: What’s Right for Me?
Veneers may feel like the perfect option for you at first, but you should still take a look at your other cosmetic options to see how they would affect your smile. They are all at different price points and can help patients achieve a variety of different outcomes. Here are some of the most common ones that we offer.
- Invisalign – If you have alignment issues, you might find that Invisalign is the ideal way to correct them. This type of treatment costs several thousands of dollars, but it is highly effective at straightening teeth.
- Teeth Whitening – Teeth whitening is quick and one of the most affordable cosmetic solutions available. However, it is only able to address the color of your teeth, not their shape or position.
- Bonding – Dental bonding is generally the most affordable cosmetic solution. It is great at correcting minor issues, like small chips, stains, and gaps. Bonding usually needs to be replaced every 3 to 10 years.
- Veneers – Veneers aren’t the cheapest cosmetic dental service, but they are the easiest way to transform multiple aspects of your smile simultaneously.
How to Make Veneers Affordable
In the vast majority of situations, dental insurance doesn’t cover veneers. This is because they are considered to be an elective procedure. However, this doesn’t mean that you are completely out of luck. We accept checks, cash, and credit cards. We also offer a flexible payment plan, so ask our Financial Coordinator for details if you are interested.
At Michelsen Dental, we are happy to accept payments through CareCredit – a third-party financing company that can split the cost of your treatment into manageable monthly installments with little to no interest. For more information on your financial options, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our friendly team members.

Veneers FAQs
What do I need to do after my veneers are placed?
It’s very common for patients to have questions about the process of getting veneers and life after their smile-transformation. For that reason, we’ve dedicated this whole section to answering FAQs about veneers! Of course, if you’d like to talk to our team directly or you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, you’re also welcome to give us a call.
Can I Have My Veneers Ready in One Day?
We have good news about our CEREC same-day veneers! Our CEREC machine will create custom dental veneers while you wait. This high-tech equipment is precise and accurate so you can have a confident, beautiful smile in no time.
Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?
You will! The materials used to craft veneers (like porcelain) are durable, lifelike, and stain-resistant. So, you won’t have to worry about your new and improved smile staining like your old one. With that said, it is still a good idea to use a straw. We also recommend keeping additives like sugar to a minimum since they can increase your chances of developing tooth decay.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
One of the biggest perks of veneers is that they are long-lasting, but what is their average lifespan, exactly? Several studies have shown that more than 90% last over a decade. Research produced by Beier also found that 83% lasted 20 years! Ultimately, their longevity depends largely on how well you care for them. That’s why we encourage our patients in Orange to take proactive measures like visiting us for a dental checkup and cleaning every six months, exercising caution with hard and crunchy foods, avoiding bad dental habits like smoking, and implementing a solid oral hygiene routine.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
The answer depends on your specific smile goals! If you want to completely transform your smile, then our Orange cosmetic dentist may recommend upwards of 12 veneers. If, on the other hand, there is just one tooth that is stained, chipped, or misaligned, then you may only need one. Of course, we will share our recommendation at your initial consultation and answer any questions you have to help you decide what’s best for you.
What Do I Need To Do After My Veneers Are Placed?
After porcelain veneers are placed, you won’t need time to recover, allowing you to keep up with your schedule. But you should also take care of them the same way you would your natural teeth. Make sure to do the following:
- Get an exam and cleaning every six months.
- Brush and floss daily.
- If you tend to grind your teeth at night, your dentist might suggest wearing a nightguard to protect both your veneers and your natural teeth.
