Not all dental problems occur in the teeth. Much of a dentist’s job deals with the gums, muscles, and bone surrounding the teeth. One of the things we need to look for is the recession of the gums.
Gum recession has a number of different causes, from inadequate hygiene to severe periodontitis. Unfortunately, gum tissue doesn’t heal itself in quite the same way that other cells do. That is why Michelsen Dental has a number of excellent treatment options available to anyone who suffers from this condition.
Receding Gums Treatment
When gums begin to recede, come to our Orange, CA office for a thorough dental cleaning. With this cleaning, we are able to remove plaque and tartar, which is the leading cause of gum inflammation.
Once your teeth are clean, daily hygiene and regular dental checkups should prevent further gum disease, which, in turn, prevents more severe gum recession.
Treatment Options for Severe Recession
If gum recession has progressed too far, simple receding gums treatment will not be enough to resolve the situation. There are two primary options for the treatment of severely receding gums: gum grafts and gum rejuvenation surgery.
Gum Grafts: This treatment is a gum surgery which actually takes tissue from elsewhere in the mouth and moves it to the affected area. The new graft will heal in place, where it will protect the roots of your teeth. This method of treatment is a time-tested and effective way to correct gum recession.
Gum Rejuvenation Surgery: Gum graft surgery is a dental procedure for treating thinning gums or gum recession. Gum grafting covers exposed teeth roots and adds volume to your gum line, improving overall oral health. Recovery usually takes one week to two weeks, but it may take longer. Gum grafting has a good success rate and can reduce your risk of severe gum disease.
